VERY PRIVATE GARDEN HOME WITH GATED PARKING
With its white pillars and bay window, the cottage at 21 St. James Park is a perfect complement to the mansion of Col. John E. Stearns. Like the mansion, the cottage was designed by famed Los Angeles architect John Parkinson, whose later works included Los Angeles’ City Hall, the Coliseum, Union Station and eight of the present landmark buildings on the grounds of USC.
The compact, 400-square-foot cottage matches the mansion’s Colonial Revival style and includes a bay-windowed living room, bedroom, kitchen with breakfast nook, and bathroom with tub/shower. Residents have direct access to a coin laundry room in the Colonel’s Mansion, next door.
The cottage’s pillared front porch overlooks the main lawn of the estate’s 3/4-acre, landscaped grounds, where residents may stroll and relax. Rent of $1,600 a month includes an outdoor parking space within the gated grounds.
The Colonel’s Cottage is well located in an area popular with students, patrolled by USC’s Department of Public Safety and served by USC Campus Cruisers. It’s one block north of Adams Boulevard, where the free USC bus stops, and a six-block walk or bicycle ride to the campus. We have the lowest crime rates of any neighborhood within walking distance of USC. Close to grocery stores, pizza shops, Bacari wine bar, Nature’s Brew Coffee and Kitchen, and the 23rd Street Cafe.
